Honestly, all of these terrible reviews surprise me because I've had a pretty positive experience with MetroPlus.
Because of the government subsidy, I pay just under $100 for a silver plan (featuring dental and vision) with a very reasonable $250 deductible. I have used my benefits for PCP visits, dental, and vision. I haven't had a problem with any of them.
I did not like the PCP they assigned me, but was able to switch to a provider that I know and like without any problems. He is not at a clinic, for the record, but in a private office. I also went to a dentist in a private office. Again, I had to switch from the dentist that I was assigned by HealthPlex, but this took 10 minutes maximum. The dentist I saw also had a private office (not a clinic).
And, my dental plan covers emergencies so I am going to an oral surgeon in a couple of days for an emergency wisdom tooth extraction. There is one hurdle to jump over: dental referrals take about 3 business days, but I needed an appt sooner. So now my dentist will have to call HealthPlex for an emergency referral. I had to sit on the phone with HealthPlex (again maybe 5-10 minutes) to find out and I'll have to call my dentist back tomorrow to get them to set this up, but honestly, this is not very inconvenient at all. The oral surgeon I am seeing is also not at a clinic and comes highly recommended by my mother who has much better insurance than me.
Yes, it is annoying that I can't pay my premium online. However, I spend maybe 2 minutes a month logging into the MetroPlus website to pay my premium. Pretty standard stuff you guys.
Is there better insurance out there? Obviously. Is there a cheaper plan with a more reasonable deductible that covers everything this plan covers? I haven't found it. I'm not sure what people are expecting from insurance, but this is about as straightforward as insurance gets, in my experience. Was this review …? -

Negative stars if that were an option.
Just wanted to put in my two cents, even if it's just to echo what others have said.
NOBODY ACCEPTS METROPLUS.
If you sign up for this insurance you will find yourself on the phone for hours and days calling everyone under the sun trying to find someone that has even heard of it.
It's all right if all you'd like is a primary care physician, but should an illness arise where a specialist is needed, you'd be out of luck. I'd say about 99.9% of the physicians listed on the Metroplus website don't actually accept the insurance. If you call the helpline, the rep on the other end will simply pull up the exact same search engine you had been using yourself and rattle off names that you had already called. Useless.
My partner and I are paying an exorbitant amount for zero return. We chose it because of the subways ads. Go figure! Never trust subway ads.
Metroplus has taken away the last shred of faith I had in the American healthcare system. You can only get the help you need if you have the money to pay for it.Was this review …? -

I got pushed to this plan from the obamacare website. I'm really disappointed at how much stress this health insurance has put on me. Anytime I am sick it's 2-3 hours on the phone trying to land one appointment, I end up in tears just begging for someone to slot me in somewhere despite that it's far away from where I live. Barely anyone takes this health insurance. Urgent Care type of places NEVER take this health insurance, so when you're sick, be sure to book an appt the second you see signs in order to line things up right. Otherwise you'll be paying a good amount each month to have no choice but to wait out your sickness until they can find an appointment for you days away at a clinic that is more than likely miles away as well.
The worst. After my appointment this week I plan on cancelling this plan and dancing on my bed for being rid of them. Was this review …? -

If there was an option for no stars I would pick that.
Nobody takes this insurance. I had to go to an urgent care facility recently for strep throat, I was dizzy and running a high fever, and without a primary care physician, I went to the City MD close to my apartment. When I got there I was informed that they do not take MetroPlus. Being too sick to go elsewhere, I paid the $125 out of pocket, hoping that MetroPlus would offer some kind of reimbursement. When I called MetroPLus, I was told that since I'm covered for emergency rooms, I should have gone to an actual emergency room and that they would do nothing for me. What is the point of having health insurance if I'm on my own. This is not an isolated instance, there are many dr's listed on their website that take this insurance, that when I called to make an appointment, I learned that they do not.
This insurance is a joke. For what I pay monthly, even with my government subsidy, I could just pay per visit without insurance.....

I wish I could leave negative 5 stars. My enrollment started August 1st in metro Plus and it is now November and I have yet to receive my insurance card despite over 10 phone calls and calls to the ny health exchange still no luck. I've had to cancel doctors appointments and pay for my medications out of pocket. What is the point of having health insurance if you have no access to it.Was this review …? -

Negative stars if it were an option. Do not think about signing up with MetroPlus. It has nothing to do with Obamacare itself because that is just the website that brings you to a list of choices of health insurers. There are good health insurers on the Obamacare website as I later found out from friends. Trust me I will be choosing another insurer if I don't find a job with benefits. It has everything to do with the fact that so few healthcare providers accept them and the fact that their customer service is awful!!
On average I'm on the phone with them for at least 45 minutes each time. I had an issue with a medication that I needed and they kept denying it and telling the pharmacy I hadn't met my deductible but they sent me documentation stating that my deductible had been satisfied. This situation went on for weeks and I could never get a supervisor on the phone.
If you care about your healthcare stay away from Metroplus, no matter how "low" their prices may seem. Do a little research and find a real insurance company that actually cares about providing good service when you really need them. Was this review …? -

If you are reading this because you are doing research for deciding on a health plan,
congratulations! You are way smarter than me!
I signed up for Obamacare last winter and waited until the last minute to look into my choices. Metroplus seemed like a great plan and was significantly cheaper than Oxford, Aetna, or other well known companies, so I signed up.
What I have found is:
that their customer service is pretty awful
Their provider network is very limited, and when you do find someone who takes Metroplus the length of time to get an appointment is a 50/50 that you will still be alive to make it, even if you have nothing urgent.
The two doctors I have seen have both been horrible experiences.
You will end up in horrible waiting rooms for hours. I guess Metroplus is just a step up from medicaid as far as what providers will accept, so you will be in a waiting room with all kinds of people with no insurance fighting it out to bee seen by someone because the place is way overcrowded. I made an appointment for a routine physical and was sent to a hospital where I waited for 2.5 hours, and all that happened was my doctor tried to schedule me to see a series of other doctors. They wanted to set me up for 5 separate appointments. And I walked in with no complaints, just a routine exam.
This hospital was seriously festooned with Metroplus propaganda EVERWHERE, and as I waited my 2.5 hours I was even approached by someone wanting to sign me up for Metroplus. I genuinely feel like there is some kind of billing racket going on there. Metroplus offers low rates, gets tons of money from new Obamacare subscribers, refers everyone to these ghetto hospitals that aren't even worth dying in, set up a bunch of unneccesary appointments, and everyone makes revenue. Except for me, the patient, who took 2.5 hours out of my day to have absolutely nothing done.
. If I were on medicaid, I would deal with a long wait. I'm not. My premium is currently $462.69/mo and going up to $537.88 in the new year. For that price it is absolutely and totally inexcusable to spend 2.5 hours at an appointment in which I spent 10 minutes with a doctor who only input simple information into a program in order to tell me I should make five other appointments.
This is an eye opener to everything that is wrong with healthcare today, and you bet your sweet ass I will not be renewing with Metroplus. Was this review …? -

Update! I switched to Emblem Health. It's hard to imagine it'll turn out worse than MetroPlus. I did A LOT of research after petitioning the NY State of Health to permit me to change. Emblem and Affinity were the most widely accepted by the numerous hospitals and providers' offices I called after United, which is much more expensive than the others. Was this review …? -

As others have mentioned... Don't even bother. No one takes this insurance and I was assigned a PCP in a free clinic. I got the dental plan and ended up paying for most of the work out of pocket anyway. They do not cover what they advertise.
As another commenter has mentioned....
For other reviewers, you can call the phone number on nystateofhealth.ny.gov , 1.855.355.5777 and tell them about your experience and ask to switch. They will put in a complaint with the Department Of Health. THEN you can go to dfs.ny.gov/consumer/file... and file a complaint with the Department Of Financial Services. Was this review …? -

STAY AWAY!
The only reason that MetroPlus Health gets one star is because unlike other people here, I was able to find a great doctor who takes MetroHealth Plus and switched out from the one that they assigned to me.
Where to begin. At the beginning. I joned MetroHealth Plus early in the registration process. By the time that January had rolled around, I still hadn't received a bill. I tried calling and was put on hold for an hour before being disconnected.
I was called by them early in the month and told that I had to go into the office and pay or I would be cut off. I did so. I don't think this is exactly legal under Obamacare. I have been late in payment since then with no issue.
By February, I still was not receiving a bill and more importantly still had no insurance card or materials or anything. It was not until mid March when I finally got all of my info, just as I was about to switch to another plan. Silly me, did not switch.
Went to see my new doctor for a routine physical. Went a few days later to see the Nurse practitioner for my Well Women care.
The physician sends the bill to the insurance company and the insurance company pays what it is supposed to pay and then turns around and bills you for the difference.
After my physical, my well woman care and my blood tests, the insurance company billed me $250. I may very well owe that money, but for what? Certainly not for my 100% covered physical and well woman care. The "Explanation of Benefits" explains nothing at all.
I called Customer Service and after being put on hold for 15 minutes, spoke to a rep who had no idea what I had been billed for. She put me on hold for another 15 minutes or so and came back with no real explanation for what I had been billed for. I again asked for a line by line explanation. She put me on hold and again, I was disconnected.
I am now afraid to get my Mammogram because I am afraid that I am going to be billed for it when it is preventative and should be free.
I will be looking to get out of this plan as soon as possible. Hopefully NY State will allow me to switch to another plan. I'm not sure if any of them are any good. Was this review …? -

This situation did eventually get cleared up with the result that I now have minimal, one grade above Medicaid coverage. Not much to write home about but better than nothing. I have had a much-needed eye exam and oral surgery, both with just $15 co-pays. The eye exam was no problem but the oral surgeon terrifying. I honestly thought it was the end!Was this review …? -

The 5-star review below is CLEARLY fake.
No doctors take this insurance, and I have searched high and low. The listed doctors on the site all operate out of clinics, and I'm wary to book an appt given the previous reviews. I still had to pay out of pocket for my eye doctor visit & am currently looking for a PCP I can afford.
STAY AWAY. I wish I could switch, but it's past the deadline. At this point, I want to just cancel b/c what's the point in having insurance that nobody takes? Huge ripoff!!Was this review …? -

I wish it were possible to give negative stars. I've always had insurance through work so when I enrolled through the ACA and saw what MetroPlus was like...I just accepted that this was the new face of American Public Healthcare:
-1 hour waits just to talk to a customer service representative (if they pick up at all)
-Having to wait a month and a half to see your primary care physician just so that you can get a referral written to see a specialist and then having to wait another month to see said specialist
-Rude customer service
-Terrible Hospitals
-Having to send in paper checks to pay my premium which takes forever and caused a lapse in my service.
Fortunately. Not all providers are like this. This is is just the cheapest option since they provide both dental and medical rolled into a really cheap plan. However, what's the point in paying a few bucks less a month if you can't even see a doctor?
I switched to Oscar. People actually seem to work there (I waited about 30 seconds to talk to someone), I don't have to go to a PCP to schedule an appt. with a specialist, I can pay my premium online, customer service reps are nice, they have top hospitals in network, 3 free office visits, more importantly, you can call a physician on the phone ,get their diagnosis and they'll even call in a prescription for you so that you can get basic meds without having to wait for an appt. or travel to the clinic!
This is NOT an endorsement for Oscar. I'm sure there are plenty others in the NY exchange that have similar services but they were the first I talked to which had PPO like insurance and who I liked so I went with them.

Like many others, I got suckered into this plan. My doctors are listed in the directory but not one of them actually accepts MetroPlus-the "provider guide" is pretty much as fraud. I have paid for almost everything out of pocket except for a few prescriptions. Customer service is rude, unhelpful and takes at least 20 minutes for them to even answer which is unaccpetable. Don't be fooled by the dental and eye coverage;it doesn't exist unless you are willing to go to some far away clinic. I am switching out of this plan of course;don't be tricked into thinking doctors accept Metroplus unless you are willing to use Medicaid clinicsWas this review …? -

Like many I was very happy and gung-ho about the Obamacare plan, that it would allow people like me to finally have medical insurance and be treated. What we failed to realize is that upon being forced into getting a plan, that we would have no options or choices to adhere to them. So I did it w/a open mind and happy that i'd be able to get new glasses, update my dental all that. However, this plan sucks. I have to meet a high deductible $1750, my payments every month total for the year equal $1620 so everything is out of pocket, everything. Their vision plan is also the worst. After I meet my deductible they will step in and I will only pay $30 for exam and if i get contact lenses they will only pay for 1 pair. 1 pair??? Who doesn't wear disposable these days? The worst part yet is that they only pay for vision services within a 2 year period. So even if I meet my deductible for other stuff and combination with an eye exam they will back track from the period that I paid for my initial exam and it will actually cancel itself OUT since I would've already been within that 24 month period. Most eye exams require us to visit every year so how is that even FAIR to say that we can't go get an exam because we already had one in that 2 year period. It took all week between the calls on the phone to them and with my optical visit to learn the full ins and outs and when I signed up for this plan I was not aware of what I was getting myself into. My advice DON'T ADD VISUAL, as it pays for absolutely nothing. You are best off going to a commercial optical and paying out of pocket anyway. Unless your 1 of those sick people who rack up hospital bills in access of 2k or more then their visual plan will only pay for your exam and glasses once. Lose your glasses, or your vision gets worse within 2 years you'll have to pay it yourself and since the deductible starts over every year (not from the time you started the plan) then it basically cancels itself out!
Metroplus there isn't a word evil enough to describe my feelings towards your insurance. My advice get a visa and go work in another country that offers free health care to it's working citizens. Obamacare is a joke! Was this review …? -

Stay away from this insurance company. The worst I have ever experienced! I live in Manhattan and can not find a doctor that will take this insurance. I have called and received names of doctors only to find out after that they do not take it. I have called customer service five times and can not get a return call. I took this insurance because it was rated high on the government website and I got the Platinum plan. For five months now, I can not get the name of a single doctor that will see me for my knee and the company can not give me one. The worst thing is that I can't change. I even filed a complaint with the government. But no one cares and no one does anything! STAY AWAY! Do not make the same mistake I did.Was this review …? -

WORST INSURANCE EVER.
I signed up for the SIlver plan through the NY Health Exchange. They never sent me a card (despite the fact that I called and asked for one) but they sure as hell keep sending me BILLS.
You can't register online or set up Auto Pay so the website is worthless.

DON'T! JUST DON'T! No matter how good it looks on paper, DON'T GET METROPLUS!!!!!!!!!
This is not Healthcare, it's WELFARE with a premium.
I wish reviews like mine could have been available before I signed up, but they weren't bc its a new company, so use my experience as an example.
I got a Platinum Plan, $462/month and $0 deductible. With dental and eyecare. Sounds great, right! WRONG.
I was assigned a PCP with MetroPlus. I was very, very confused when the address brought me into the middle of a multi-building housing project. I wandered around the projects until I found a literal BACK ALLY CLINIC. I'm serious, it was in an ally. In the projects. It was a low/income/welfare clinic. I waited 2 hours to see my PCP with a crowd of people definitely NOT paying $462 to be there. I am not trying to diss clinics, they do an important job to serve those in need. I went to clinics when I was in dire straits. But to be sent there by my insurance....
I decided to change my PCP. I can only find in-network PCPs at clinics. My co-worker with the same plan was assigned one in a HOMELESS SHELTER.
I can't find a dentist. Apparently my dental insurance is a different company and no one told me the name, or sent me a book on in-network dentists. It still cost $700 to get contact and glasses.
They sent me a giant 1" thick book of "in-network" doctors. I called so, so many. They are either very confused and said "no, we don't take that plan." or the doctor I am calling for left the company years ago, or they dropped the plan, or the DON'T EVEN EXIST. It's just a disconnected phone line.
For other reviewers, you can call the phone number on nystateofhealth.ny.gov , 1.855.355.5777 and tell them about your experience and ask to switch. They will put in a complaint with the Department Of Health. THEN you can go to dfs.ny.gov/consumer/file… and file a complaint with the Department Of Financial Services.
I can't be stuck with this plan until open enrollment starts again.

After reading all these negative reviews I've decided to switch health plans because ACA's deadline is 3/31/2014. If you don't switch by then, you are locked into that health provider until next enrollment cycle which is at the end of the year.
I joined Metroplus by 12/31/2013 so I could have coverage for the full year. I paid for coverage up till 4/2014 but I'm cancelling April. I didn't have a chance to use their services until this month, March. I wanted to see how good the services were ie medical, dental, vision, so I planned to setup an appointment with each. I had chosen the top of line plan, Platinum-P2. It was $463 a month and had ZERO deductible. Yeah, yeah, it sounded too good to be true. All the health providers charged more, some cases, much more with a deductible and without vision, dental. But I couldn't find any really negative reviews about Metroplus when I searched last year.
For medical, the provider network are basically doctors working in hospital or clinics. After I found out I was assigned a doctor in Bellevue (based on my location), I tried to schedule an appointment. It turns out no late nights or weekend hours. And Bellevue will randomly assign you a doctor when you go for an appointment. So your appointed PCP is meaningless. I called Metroplus (30 min wait) and asked if they could find me a doctor with his/her private practice/office. Apparently there are none in Manhattan. They did find me a doctor at the Jewish Guild for the Blind on W65th St. I made an appt.
For dental, I was told I had to contact HealthPlex in order to find out my assigned dentist. I called them and found out it was Dental Associates inside Herald Sq Mall. They didn't have evening or night hours. I had asked HealthPlex to give me a few other dentists that might have evening hours/weekend hours. One of them when I called, said they were no longer taking Metroplus. The other was a clinic in the Chelsea area. So I made an appointment with the Herald Sq dentist.
For vision, I happened to be shopping in Target and saw they had a vision center. Found out they took Metroplus so I made an appointment.
Because of all the really negative reviews on Yelp, I decided I couldn't wait until April when all the appointments were made since I wouldn't be able to change plans for another year. I gave 2 stars instead of 3 or 1 stars because I didn't go to the appointments. But I wasn't given the choice of doctors I was hoping for. 3 stars is A-OK which was too much.
In defense of Metroplus, it basically serviced low-mid income families in the past but has gotten more spotlight since ACA. Unfortunately it's tough for them to compete in a place like Manhattan where the rents are sky-high and cost of living the same. They are now offering credit card payment on the web. So they are trying to improve. But it's an uphill battle when you are talking about consumers who are unforgiving about their health plans.
3/29/2014 update: Emblem Health and Oscar get VERY low marks as well on Yelp. ACA must really be jamming up the health providers. If it's possible, Emblem Health scores even lower than Metroplus. Funny thing is that after I had called up NYStateOfHealth and asked the customer rep who he would recommend, he said Emblem Health since he hadn't heard any bad reviews. Goes to show you, finding a good health provider at a reasonable cost is VERY hard.
4/21/2014 update: I'm bumping it up another star. Metroplus refunded my April premium after I had cancelled. I really thought it was going to be an issue to get my money back. I'm a little regretful that I didn't at least stick with them a little longer, instead of going by with these reviews. I do plan on re-evaluating next year. If they have gotten better word of mouth, I would reconsider them. Was this review …? -

Do not believe any of the positive reviews here. This feels more like healthcare for people on welfare. The doctors are in scary clinics or hospitals. And be sure to say you want a Board Certified doctor or they will send you to one that is not! I can't believe that is even an option. I would prefer someone who has passed their tests. I have been searching for a gyn for 4 months with no success. The book and online lists of doctors are all wrong. You call the number and they don't take metro or the doctor doesn't exist. I have been given names of doctors that have 1 year of experience. I was sent up to Harlem hospital what was not a fun experience and I walked out after 5 minutes. I called again and after 40 minutes on the phone I was given a name of a gyn on 185th st at a scary looking clinic. That's the best they could find me and I live in FiDi.
For $400 a month I can't figure out what I'm paying for since the doctor options are limited and not healthy options and they won't pay for most of my prescriptions.
Look for ANY other option! Was this review …? -

Pretty terrible. All my options for primary care doctors are a joke - no doctors anyone would actually want to see accept MetroPlus. By far the worst insurance I ever had the displeasure of using. I dealt with terrible, incompetent doctors for years to the point where I was fed up and I would not consider ever rejoining. One doctor in particular was a neurologist. She completely disregarded concerns I had and kept insisting I needed to try all these various mixes of medications from topamax to nortriptylene, etc. Then one day she quit and I was never informed and in order to see the new replacement neurologist, I had to again go back to my regular doctor to get a 2nd referral and then go see the new guy. I ended up scrapping it altogether and months later my migraines and head feel 10 times better without all those unnecessary pills. I tried to complain to Metroplus but never heard back from my voicemails or emails, it was so upsetting. I am shocked they are allowed to continue operating. Was this review …? -

WORST HEALTH PLAN IN THE HISTORY OF INSURANCE!!!!
I work in the financial medical field and trying to obtain authorization for services for a patient, whether newborn, adult or senior for SPECIALTY CANCER treatment is almost impossible. This plan DENIES dying patients to be cared for at specialty facilities. The customer service is HORRIBLE. The intake representatives act as if they are the Medical Director of denials. The Case Managers LOVE to call with the news regarding denials as if they get a percentage for every case that is denied.
I have family members that are recipients of GOVERNMENT insurance and this is one particular plan I tell them to NEVER EVER sign up for.
DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS PLAN!!! STAY AWAY!!!Was this review …? -

I'm on Metroplus and it. is. a. mess. I've spent the last couple of months (yes MONTHS) and of course my entire lunch hour today calling around, trying to get an appointment with a psychiatrist just to refill antidepressants which have been working well for years. But let's see, the MDs in the directory are "not taking new patients", "don't take Metroplus anymore", "require you to [take off from work because you have to] register ONLY in person", or they "ONLY schedule same-day appointments" [good luck with that when you're holding down a job]. "Yes the directory lists a Manhattan office, but the doctor only sees outpatients in the New Jersey office", 20 minute waits on hold in the clinics, or NO call backs after leaving messages because no one ever picked up...the reasons go on, and on, and on. Imagine. Impossible to even get an appointment with an MD.
More than once I've cried because of frustration when I'm not even "depressed". But going the way things are, I'm not sure how long that's gonna last. The plan is appalling. Was this review …? -

This was an extremely disappointing experience. Really really poor customer service and really exceptionally long wait times. I was misinformed drastically by their customer service and it cost me a lot of money.
I really recommend never signing up for metroplus.
I'm not typically a yelper. This one just really was unfair and disappointing. Was this review …? -

Here's why:
First star: I was assigned a physician who must have been 100 years old (I checked and saw he got his med degree in 1964) so I went to the website and used their database to find someone younger and closer. I found one who was not only 3 blocks away, but you can book your appointments online using ZocDoc. Excellent!
Second star: I went to see the physician and she was terrific. I waited in the office like 5 minutes (okay, I was the first appointment in the morning) and she spent time talking to me and giving me the examination. She emailed a new script, as well as renewed my old ones, and I picked them up in under and hour. AWESOME!
Third start: Price was $400 less than my previous plan, which was covered under COBRA. I could really use that $3,600 a year for other things!
Negative star: The website is a piece of crap. It functions like it was built by a 12 year old back in 1995.
Negative star: I get all my statements by snail mail; there is no "opt out" feature to get notifications via email.
Basically, this is a company that has some growing pains and is not ready for "prime time." However, I did find a good doctor in the network which is near my home and who provides a lot of services. Hopefully the company will get itself together and move its technology into the 21st century. Was this review …? -

Worst experience ever! The staff are unorganized and do not communicate with the dental and medical side. Their solution to anything is to transfer you to multiple people who are not able to help you and then lie to you blaming the state as the problem (I called the state, Metroplus is the problem and not the state). I have used over 2000 minutes on my cell phone (thank goodness for rollover minutes). So, if you plan on spending the rest of your free time being on hold, feel free to join a company that will double charge copays and discontinue your service when you pay on time every month. Was this review …? -

Well, I really thought this could be a good idea, but I can't believe how wrong I was! Run, run, run away if they contact you to be your provider in the health care market place. I signed up because they had several stars on the New York State website. I sent in my money and waited, and waited, and waited. In the meantime I called repeatedly to find out about benefits, hospitals, diabetes meds, etc., and each time I was on hold for an hour. Half the time when someone finally answered they dropped the call. What's worse is that not one thing I was told on the phone was true. The policy finally arrived a week ago. It confirmed what I feared, that I had been repeatedly lied to when I called for information. Their hospitals were terrible, and they also signed me up with a primary care physician in a clinic at Bellevue. I returned the policy by UPS ground so I could prove that I had sent it back within ten days of receipt and requested a refund.
To add insult to injury, I got a letter of determination today from Care Mark / CVS, their pharmacy "partner." Watch out for them too! After being promised several times by Metro Plus that one of my diabetes medications was covered, and after three trips to Duane Reade in the freezing cold, Care Mark decides the meds aren't covered for a BS reason. The reason made no sense because the meds they claimed I should have "tried" are ones I had taken for years that stopped working. What really upsets me is that when you try to find out about pre-certification, Care Mark won't tell you anything because "it's up to the insurance company--you have to speak to them," and when you speak to the insurance company they say "you have to call the pharmacy!"
If this is where our healthcare is heading, we are all dead! Was this review …? -

Yes, I give this plan 4 stars, because I agree with the other reviews that customer service could be a little better if they provided an auto-pay option. However, I also signed up under the ACA with Metroplus because this plan provided Medical + Dental with $0 deductible and a co-pay of $30 for a general doctor's visit for only $350 per month!!
COST: Currently, I am starting my own company and am not making much in salary (estimated $20k/year), so my government tax subsidy is $300/month. That means I have to write a check each month for $50 to get GREAT HEALTH AND DENTAL COVERAGE. NOTE: this subsidy works like a cash advance on the taxes I file next year. So, if I make more than $20k this year, I will have to pay more in taxes when I file next year. This is something that I have to plan for. However, if I do not make more than $20k, I will not have to owe anything extra when I file. Personally, I think that is a great deal for giving me the chance to go start my own company, something I think will be really innovative and beneficial for our society.
COMPARED TO OTHER PLANS: I chose this plan, because it was one of the only plans that had Medical + Dental, $0 annual deductible and a very low co-pay. The coverage was great, and covered more than most other plans (not to mention most did not cover dental). AND, the biggest benefit was that it was $100-$200 less per month than the other plans that provided less coverage and no dental. Let me also compare this to my girlfriend who pays $200/month herself + the $2,000/month her employers pay to have an equivalent plan with similar customer service. So, $350/month vs. $2,200/month is not a difficult choice to make.
CUSTOMER SERVICE: Yes, it's true. They do not have an auto-pay feature. So, every month I have to spend about 15 minutes either going online and entering my credit card information, or I can also drop a check in the mail. Yeah, it's annoying they can't auto-charge my card, but it's only 15 extra minutes a month. How much can I really complain!?! Other than that, the customer service has been great! When I made my first payment in January, I was out of the country. I called up and waited about 10 minutes before being connected to a representative. She was very kind and emailed me the form to fill out to pay. Once I filled it out with my credit card information, scanned it back in, I emailed it directly back to her and got a response saying thank you! I saw the charge on my card the next day. There was one other issue with my payment the following month. A representative left a voicemail notifying me and left me her phone number. I called the number and it went straight to her. She cleared up the problem over the phone, and I saw the charge on my card later that day.
DOCTOR: I went in for my annual check-up at the doctor's office I was assigned. About a month after I signed up, they called me and asked if I wanted to set up an appointment. Wow, NEVER had a doctor call me to set up an appointment before! A few blocks from my house, it was easy to get to. Everyone there was very nice and polite. There was a little wait, but no longer than I've ever had to wait under my old corporate provided plans. They ran my blood and urine tests, and had the results back in a week. When I was late to my pick up my results at my next appointment, they had no problem and just told me I would have to wait a few more minutes.
SUMMARY: Over the past 3 months, I have spent about an extra 2 hours of my time dealing with billing issues that I wouldn't have had if they had an auto-pay feature. BUT, compared to the other I plans available, I have more coverage (including dental) and have saved at least $300 ($100 per month) by going with this plan. So, I guess people can have their opinion and can complain about MetroPlus wasting their time. BUT, I AM NOT THE KIND OF PERSON THAT WILL PAY AN EXTRA $300 TO SAVE MYSELF TWO HOURS OF MY OWN TIME. SO, IF YOU ARE WILLING TO PAY $150 PER HOUR FOR AN AUTO-PAY FEATURE, I RECOMMEND FINDING A DIFFERENT HEALTHCARE PROVIDER.Was this review …? -

I am self-employed and in need of health care, I pay $462 a month of my hard earned money for the PlatinumPlus P-2 Plan, without deductible, that covers eye and dentist. That sounds nice, no? The reality is that you have to accept only one of the few PCPs that work in the Metropolitan Hospital, you have to wait more than one hour to be seen, surrounded by the ghetto who never in their lives have paid health insurance, but oh boy, nice tennis, nice iPhones, talking loudly. The people working there are from the same social strata, rude, ignorant and lazy. Nothing wrong, they deserve health care too, but if I'm doing a big sacrifice paying my monthly bill, I expect a better service.
Each appointment is one month apart, in that way you use the minimum of the services and they maximize the profits. I wondered if the wives, daughters and sons of those executives are there in those waiting rooms or using the same insurance. The plan does not cover root canal treatment, it was rejected. I ended paying out of pocket to see an out-of-network dentist for a cleaning and two root canal. They gave me an appointment for an eye specialist in 3 months, in the same hospital. Good luck trying to find a specialist in the two inches thick book.
I'm waiting to change to a different insurance at the end of the year. I pray to God to protect my life. Did I forget to mention that I gave the correct diagnosis to the doctor ? He did not bother to check me, but at least it shows in the system for other specialists to see it.

This insurance is offered as part of the health exchange -DONT DO IT. No customer service as no one ever picks up the phone, the choices of doctors are terrible, they assigned me a primary care provider in a public health clinic and it's not even that affordable. What a total joke. It should be immediately removed from the offerings as it is does not in reality offer an equal level of service comparable to the other plans. Was this review …?
